DBT Skills Group

Do you feel like your emotions control your behaviors? Do you have difficulties tolerating big, difficult emotions and react to them in unhelpful ways? Do you have a hard time communicating effectively with others? Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) skills groups can help you learn to manage emotions, cope with difficult emotions, and learn to have healthier relationships by communicating more effectively and setting boundaries.

Benefits of Group Therapy

Learning about emotions and behaviors in a group setting can help you know that you’re not alone. It can help you see that others have the same struggles and often feel the same way, which can be validating. It allows you to get feedback and support from others who are going through something similar.

DBT skills Group Structure

DBT skills groups are 15-week groups, separated into three 5-week modules. Each module begins with mindfulness to learn how to recognize emotions. Depending on when you start the group, you will begin with one of three modules, Emotion Regulation, Distress Tolerance, or Interpersonal Effectiveness. Each module teaches skills to learn to be more aware of your emotions, identify emotions, learn coping skills to cope with difficult emotions, develop a healthier relationship to your emotions,  learn how emotions are influencing your behaviors and relationships, and practice effective communication skills.
